Wild West Weddings
Location, Location, Location…
Choosing your dream-wedding destination should be one of your first considerations when planning your wedding and one of the most important factors.
Luckily Gran Canaria is blessed with many spectacular wedding locations, from chic beachside hotels, to country villas, beach clubs, through to city boutique hotels – the choice is endless.
More and more venues are now offering their services to the growing wedding market in Gran Canaria, and the latest venue to jump onto the wedding bandwagon is the popular Sioux City theme park, situated in the aptly named Barranco de Aquila or Eagles Ravine, near San Augustin.
A Wild West Theme Park!
This award-winning theme park is more commonly known as a family-friendly Wild West attraction, and is frequented by tens of thousands of tourists every year.
The park’s Commercial Director, Isidoro Quevedo sums up the park when he states, “Sioux City is quite unique…. there’s no other place like it on the islands”, he is absolutely right, there isn’t!
Founded in 1971, the park was initially a Wild West themed movie set, and was used in the 20th Century Fox film ‘Take a Hard Ride’ (1975) with Lee Van Cleef and Jim Brown. Interestingly, soul legend James Brown inaugurated the main auditorium in 1987.
Why Choose Sioux City?
Choosing Sioux City as your wedding location will certainly make you feel like a Star!
The atmosphere is electric, you and your guests will be surrounded by a riot of exciting street shows, where Cowboy’s and Indian’s pit their wits during crazy shootouts and exotic showgirls dance the Can-Can in their brightly coloured costumes!
The highlight of any marriage blessing at Sioux City has to be the ceremony itself conducted in the authentic Wild West-style wooden Chapel.
The quaint chapel is situated at the end of Main Street, a dusty road snaking its way through Sioux City, it’s lined with authentic Western-style buildings, and the odd lone mule, taking a rest from the midday sun, an atmospheric and perfect setting for your wedding ceremony.
In keeping with the Wild West theme, the wedding groom can choose to ride up to the Chapel on horseback, or can be dragged, true western-style, by a lasso wielding cowboy – a wonderful, memorable way to begin your wedding celebration!
A horse and carriage is on hand to bring the bride and her entourage to the Chapel, whilst delightful Country & Western music fills the streets, adding to the magical ambience.
Let’s Chow Down Cowboys!
After the ceremony, the celebrations continue into the small hours. You can choose from a sizzling BBQ of delicious local fish or meat, fresh salads and accompanying grilled vegetables and side dishes, or design your own menu from the wide selection of menu options, all served beneath the warm night sky.
Then finally dance the night away beneath the stars to live entertainment, including line dancing and a popular DJ playing your favourite tracks, both are guaranteed to get your party in full swing!
We spoke with local couple Nerieda Sanchez & Juan Medina, who held their wedding at Sioux City in 2012, Nerieda recalled with a smile, ‘our wedding was totally unforgettable, both for us and all our guests!”
Whether you choose an ‘all guns blazing’ western-themed wedding, or are simply looking for an original and unique venue in which to say ‘I do’ then Sioux City is a perfect location for your dream wedding.
